Audiobook Narration Rates

These rates are intended for independent authors looking to hire me directly. Rates include full narration by me (no AI), proofing, editing, mastering, and delivery of audio files.

  • PFH stands for “Per Finished Hour” and its how audiobook narration is priced. To figure out how long your book its, take the total word count (not character or page count) and divide that by 9300. That’s roughly an hour. So a 100,000 word book would be about 10.75 hours x $250 = cost $2688.

    In this model, you own the audio files and you get all the royalties from the sales.

  • RS+ Stands for “Royalty Share Plus” and my rate for that is $150 PFH (Per Finished Hour) So a 100,000 word book would be roughly $1612.50

    You still get full narration & production but you split the royalties from sales with me 50/50. Right now, this is possible only through Audible exclusive that I’m aware of.

  • I reserve this option for authors whose stories I’m really interested in narrating and who have a robust following on socials and a strong marketing plan. This is where there is no cost up front to you, but we split the royalties 50/50. I do this sparingly.

Process

Audiobook narration & production is a labor of love. Good story telling takes preparation and attention to detail, as well as all the emotions and acting ability needed to embody the characters and bring your story to life. I’m also real human who makes mistakes so proofing is part of the process as well.

I read every book cover to cover before I start narrating. I make notes, look up pronunciations and ask questions.

Meet & Plan

I like to meet the authors I work with over Zoom if possible. We will be collaborating to create your audio book and I also like to make sure I’m working with a human :)

In this meeting we’ll discuss characters, questions, and timing.

Collaborate

You’re part of the process. I not only need the final (edited & proofed) manuscript from you, but I also need pronunciation guides, main character descriptions, dialect notes, overall feel / direction you’d like me to convey as the narrator. This is your opportunity to be specific.

“15 min” Checkpoint

I will need from you a section of the book (typically about 15 min long but it can be a bit longer or shorter) that you want me to narrate as a checkpoint. This is your opportunity to give me direction and hear character voices. I won’t be able to do them all if your book has a lot of characters so be selective on what scene you choose. After this checkpoint, I am self directing and will only go back to fix mistakes.

I Narrate and Master Files

Depending on how long the book is, this could be anywhere from 2-6 weeks during which time you may not hear from me unless I have a question. Feel free to check in though! Once I’m done, I’ll deliver the files and you can ask for corrections if there are any

Distribution

If you are going exclusive through Audible, I can upload the files for you or you can do so. If you’re going to distribute another way, you will need to upload the files to the service you choose.
